Technical Tutorials

Here is a shot of me helping another group with their green screen. I was instructed to frame the main singer of the group and to ensure that there was no ripples in the Green screen behind them. It was important to make sure there was no creases in the green screen to ensure that when you come to editing the film, you can select the colour green with as little shades as possible and this will ensure that none of the footage you want is cut out due to the shaded areas.

Here is our final product. As this is our first attempt at a green screen, we feel that we have done very successfully as we have produced an innovative film which has several conventions of our genre. As a group we learnt how to use final cut express with chroma keyer filter on which is a very tricky tool to use but we feel that we are on our way to mastering it. We have some issues with the film such as the fact that when I was playing the keyboard, my face was not recorded during the shot which is a shame as I attempted to lip sync the chorus to the song and we feel that this brings the overall clip down. I chose to get the laser show background as the song is played live a lot and i felt that by having a laser show in the background we would be able to mimic a live recording of the song. In order to download the laser show we had to go on to youtube.com and search for a laser show. I instantly knew that this was the one as it was a very high quality video and show. We then added this to a lower layer in Final Cut Express so it was shown behind our green screen. I also feel we needed more time in order to get the lip sync and other areas of the video in time such as the drumming.

Here is our first draft of a publicity photo which we produced using photoshop. We found this application a lot harder to use as none of the group had used it before so we decided that we would get the image that we wanted and then play around with it. Jamal had some very successful ideas such as making the background black and white but keeping the contrasting yellow of the sign which we decided to incorporate into the text of our photo. The text is a typical graffiti font which we downloaded fro dafont.com and is part of the conventions for a publicity photo of the grime genre. We decided to put a parental advisory sticker on our publicity photo as we felt that a lot of grime  music has a lot of swearing in it which is convention of our genre. I don't think that I would want to use such an extreme urban text but I would like to have a style that conveyed our genre but looks 'classy'.
Here are a few examples I have found on dafont.com:
